Job Description: Microsoft Exchange 2019 Solution Architect 

The Exchange architect will assist the client customer with developing technical strategies and architectures. Client has a large Exchange 2013 environment that needs to be reduced in size and upgraded to Exchange 2019. The Exchange environment is being reduced since the majority of email accounts have been migrated to Exchange online. The upgrade must continue to support a hybrid environment between on premises Exchange and Exchange Online. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

• Review and document solutions and present results accordingly to public sector customer’s management 

• Provide expertise on IT issues relating to the integration between on-premises infrastructure and cloud technologies. 

• Develop and recommend solutions and strategies for technical solutions 

• Support customer system-wide technical needs analysis 

• Research, analyze and evaluate existing systems infrastructure and the process for migrating to the new standards 

• Facilitate knowledge transfer on an individual and organizational basis 

• Resolve problems that are tactical in nature and supporting the public sector customer throughout the solution  

• Identifying future technology skills needed by the organization as a result of system changes 

• Develop and implement desired end state: Exchange 2019 as a part of a hybrid on-prem/cloud messaging solution o Document/define roles for on-prem/cloud messaging solution 

• Right size the remaining on-prem Exchange environment given the reduced roles for delivering messaging services. Specify: 

o Remaining mailbox counts 

o Remaining integrations 

• Define specifications for refreshed compute platform  

o Processing architecture  

o Processing requirements  

o Storage requirements 

• Define specifications for OS/image in support of Exchange 2019 install o Windows 2019 o Exchange 2019 

• Review/define testing strategy 

o Testing environment configuration 

o Testing goals/methods 

▪ Failover testing 

▪ MS365 integration testing 

• Define the as built documentation and play book to support the potential build/rebuilding of servers in the future 

• Review external dependencies 

o Load Balancers 

o MS365 integration 

• Review backup solution: Microsoft’s DPM vs. Avamar solution, determine path forward and plan for replacement 

• Review Journaling requirements/implementation 

• Post the right sizing it is anticipated that there will be a low number of mailboxes, traffic flow will still pass through the on-premises systems. Design must be able to support the expected amount of email traffic to pass through the system 

Basic Qualifications: 

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: 

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. 

• 8 – 10 years of experience supporting complex environments with the following criteria: 

• Advanced level expertise in cloud technologies including Microsoft Office 365, ADFS, Azure AD design, migration, and deployment  

• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in designing, integrating, migrating, and supporting large systems in either the public or private sector  

• Must have advanced knowledge of industry, technology, applications, and services to assure overall quality of solutions  

• Extensive experience in delivering complex solutions in the Microsoft environment that address high availability and disaster recovery  

• Strong technical writing skills for developing design and procedural documentation  

• Upgrade on-prem messaging environment to Exchange 2019  

• Refresh hardware platform in support of upgrade 

• Revisit backup solution to see extent of reuse  

• Upgrade environment to Exchange 2019 (Virtual servers)  

• Cleanly decommission existing Exchange 2013 from environment
